Starbucks’ secret “Pink Drink” has becoming an Instagram sensation over the last month and the moment I saw hoards of photos from people I follow from the States on my feed, I salivated!

#PinkDrink is basically an off-the-menu (means specifically stating what you want in the beverage) drink which swaps out water with coconut milk in a Strawberry Acai Refresher tea with scoops of strawberries! Aaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!

I didn’t dare ask my local Starbucks’ barista if the Pink Drink is even available in Manila (let me know if you guys are successful) as I’m on a diet but it did inspire me to make a healthy hack of it.

Strawberry & Coconut Protein Smoothie

Ingredients:

3/4 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1/2 cup coconut meat (I used the dried coconut flakes, unsweetened)
2 tbsp. or 1 scoop (I use the scoop that came with the powder) of whey powder protein, unsweetened strawberry flavor
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
2 tbsp flaxseed, freshly ground (optional)
1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)
3 ice cubes
1/2 cup water (optional, for thinner consistency)

Protein powder. When you’re rushing out the door late for work in the morning, the last thing you have time for is to make a quick breakfast to kickstart your day. Protein shakes can come in handy as a meal replacement.

Easy peasy:

Step 1: Put all the ingredients (except for the chia seeds) in the blender.

Step 2: Blend till desired consistency.

Step 3:  Add the chia seeds last to avoid the gelatinous texture then mix well.

Step 4: Garnish with coconut flakes then post a photo of your very own Pink Drink on Instagram and tag me!

This healthy pink drink tastes a tad tangy and the coconut flakes gives a crunchy texture (great source of fiber to!)

Step 5: Enjoy!!

This protein smoothie is a healthy meal replacement plus, since strawberry is a natural diuretic it can help you lose weight and good detox power.

There you have it! The mythical pink beverage is real and you can make a healthy version of it too.

  1. Hi Ms. Jenni,

May I know where you get these ingredients? Can you find them in Healthy options?

      Hi Neri,

Yes, you can get the flaxseed, chia seeds, coconut flakes and protein powder in Healthy Options as well as other health food stores. The almond milk and the frozen strawberries are available in select groceries like Rustan’s and S&R.

      Hi Neri,

If you want to try the shake for taste reasons, I don’t think it’s necessary to go to the doctor. It’s like any other healthy protein shakes. However, if you want to lose weight and drink this shake as a meal replacement it’s always best to consult a specialist.

      Good luck!

      Best,
      Jenni

      Hi Mercy,

Any whey protein powder should be OK. I personally use the Solgar brand, Whey To Go (available in Healthy Options).

Give it a try and if you like it, drink the shake as a meal replacement for breakfast. The protein powder helps in weight-loss especially if you’re cutting down on your carbohydrates and protein intake.
      Good luck!

      Best,
      Jenni

      Hi Bella,

Best to drink it while it’s fresh. If you want to bring it to work, you can probably freeze it and put it in a container then drink it for later. I just can’t guarantee the taste.

      Good luck!

      Best,
      Jenni
