Rockmantic: Adam Levine’s Home

This week is all about Maroon 5′s front man, Adam Levine, and how “hot” he is. I agree.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to watch his concert or have the opportunity to see/meet him but I’ve been a fan of his music and his style from day one. Also, I adore his home! The first time I saw it on Architecture Digest, my beating heart stopped! Love. It.

I believe that a home should reflect one’s personal style. Adam Levine’s Hollywood Hills house definitely sums up the singer’s “rockmantic” style!

Adam Levine's rockin' style!

Live Style

I swoon over his decadent velvet aubergine mohair sofa and vintage lamp!

I spy PINK: Champagne Rosé and pink Phalaenopsis

I love how the space is maximized by the putting the dining set directly across the kitchen. I really want an oblong dining table, just like Adam's but Tom thinks otherwise. It's been 17 years, hun!!! Can we at least decide on the shape of the table???

Banging bar cart!

Check out Adam's bar cart! We're soul mates! Cute reindeer silver cups too! Haha!

The color of HOTNESS!

The giant red hot velvet tufted ottoman punctuates this dark room.

For me, black walls are elegant and mysterious. It's also one of the best canvas for Adam's amazing art collection!

Again, black featured wall plus, a Danish cabinet is the perfect pedestal for the singer's Grammy trophies.

I leave this to your imagination…

Black bottom claw foot tub... Aaaaa!!! Adam inside the tub?

Sorry Adam… found this on Google:

Luxe Home: Sexy Whites

White is the color of luxury as it is high maintenance, but it’s also for the same reason that it is seductive.

From Luxury Society:

Sophie Maxwell, head of insight at Pearlfisher, discusses the cultural changes in luxury consumption, leading to the re-emergence of white as the ultimate luxury palette.

When it comes to home accessories and furniture, this season’s dark hue trend may be elegant and mysterious but classic white is sophisticated and sexy.

Clockwise:

Eames Molded Plastic Rocker. You will be mine soon!

Baby’s Breath. Flowers are necessary luxuries for the home. A bunch of Gypsophila (botanical name means “lover of chalk”) arranged in a vase is an affordable and chic choice.

Marble bust. Purely decorative but it makes an enchanting focal point.

Jonathan Adler Capuchine Decanter. A fabulous addition to our bar cart.

White ceramic elephant. Not that I need another “pet” at home, but this would make a fun side table for one of our rooms.

Like what I’ve written before, I’ve been redecorating Maison Epperson in preparation for the holidays. My husband told me that he misses snow during Christmas… OK then, let’s have a Winter Wonderland theme Tropicana style! Kaya ko ‘to!

Change of Season Home Décor

Please feel free to skip this post if you think the idea is pretentious.

Now, if you are as passionate as me in creating an inspiring space in your home, read on.

Summer is over and so is the look of our current living space. I’m ready for the “Ber” months with all its trimmings! The cool weather is approaching so it’s time to warm things up at home.

For starters, I’ve busted out some animal skin that have been in storage.

If these weren't gifts, I would buy faux animal rugs.

It’s time to shake things up at Maison Epperson!

Sheep skin

My friend Celine Lopez called it first: “It’s fur season!”

I’m not planning to wear fur but our living room couch is willing.

Like what I wrote before, my approach to home decorating is of a fashion stylist. Just like transitional wardrobes, transitional décor from Summer to cool weather season should be inspiring but never breaking the bank.

I still use the “Summer” throw pillows I scored from Our Home and just added texture.

Our couch is like the little black dress (LBD)—easy to accessorize, practical, and the possibilities are endless.

Sheep skin + Toy = “Glam Fun” style

Home Fun Home

Cow hide

I never liked our parquet floors but it gives me a reason to dress them up with different rugs.

Rockmantic

With the new addition of different textures to our home, I just know that I’m on the right track—Aryanna can prove it:

“Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.” – Coco Chanel

Aryanna: "Our couch is cozy now. I could sleep here the whole day." Zzz...

My little boy just woke up from his nap, so kyoot!

You cannot peel these two off the couch even if you tried!

Aryanna: “This couch is furry nice!”

Sweet siblings

Tune in for more change of season home décor at Maison Epperson!

Entertaining: Bar Cart & Food Trolley

I blame Hollywood Classics for my love of bar carts and food trolleys. They are the ultimate throwback to the ’50s and ’60s where women threw cocktail parties.

Inspiration:

Funny vintage ads

The truth is, Tom and I hardly drink at home except for the occasional glass of wine during dinner or a hot tottie before sleeping or popping a bottle of Champagne to celebrate life’s small victories. Our bar cart is mainly used for entertaining guests.

I already blogged about my “bar cart” story and I’m happy that I finally found it:

I love my Society Social "Sedgewick" bar cart!

(Photo taken using Instagram)

Having a bar cart and/or a food trolley can add a touch of glamour to one’s space and while having additional storage. It’s handy to have one around especially when you live in a “shoe box”, like we do.

Dream come true: My very own bar car!

One of the luxuries of setting up a home bar or a wet bar is that it could save you lots of money when entertaining as suppose to hiring a bartender or a cocktail caterer.

Bar essentials:

Bubbly. Always keep a bottle of bubbly in the fridge for special occasions. Sometimes, the special occasion is that you’ve got a bottle of Champagne in the fridge. -Unknown

For an affordable alternative, buy cava or Prosecco.

"Champagne for my real friends, and real pain for my sham friends." ~ Monty Brogan

Assorted wines: Red, white, rosé

Stirred not shaken. A glass martini pitcher, stirrer, and martini glasses because it’s fun to create your own signature drink!

Shaken not stirred. If you prefer your drink shaken, get a cocktail shaker.

Clink not clunk. Invest on crystal glasses.

A dash of bling. Limited edition bottles make your drink cart more special.

I love these limited edition Absolut Vodka containers!

Fun shots! Sometimes, silly does it! Shot glasses are “small but terribly fun”! Haha!

My current obsession: Anything Anne Taintor

Screw it! Unless you want to be a cork sucker, you need this.

Meet the muse of my bar cart, Alessi's "Anna G." corkscrew by Alessandro Mendini

Play & display. If you have bottles, glasses, wines, and other liquor you collect, display them in your bar cart.

I collect limited edition water bottles.

Books and boys. Because we are not know-it-alls, a drink kodigo is handy to have around. A photo of your favorite “bartenders” is also a must! Haha!

The manuals and men in my life!

Something vintage. Old’s cool. Period.

A gift from my BFF Tim Yap. He really knows the way to my liver, er, heart! LOL

Just when I thought having a bar cart was the best thing in life (CHOZ!), look what I got during the SM Home sale:

A two-tiered white food trolley at 20% off! Yaaaaay!

A food trolley is helpful to have when entertaining—it’s like an extension of your sideboard/console table. It’s also mobile that you can roll it from the dining area to the living room with ease.

Great for added storage for dishes, trays, fruit baskets, and decorative pieces.

You can use it as a dessert or pica-pica cart too.

Soft caramels and my birds, John & Marsha. Haha!

I rest my case.

Quotable quotes:

Dr. Lawrence Bradford (William Powell): “What is a cocktail dress?”
Paula Bradford (Jean Arthur): “Something to spill cocktails on.”
-The Ex-Mrs. Bradford (1936)

On that note, slip a cocktail dress, call up your best friends and pop a bubbly! Life is one big celebration!

The “Secret” Showroom

Edit: Don’t miss this sale!

Maison Epperson is currently undergoing some minor renovations for our daughter Aryanna’s bedroom. We’re done with the moodboard. It’s time to source for furniture and accessories for our teenager’s lair. Haay! I can’t believe I have a 16-year old already!

When it comes to furniture, I’m always on the lookout for high and low pieces. I believe that a good mix adds character to one’s home and is also good for the family budget.

I got a call from my friend Trixie Esguerra about a “secret” showroom where apparently, a lot of interior designers go to and have furniture custom made (aminin!). Needless to say, I was very excited!

Ladies, gentlemen, and gays, presenting… the “secret” showroom:

Mandaue Foam

Started in 1971 by Mrs. Rosita T. Uy as a foam manufacturer in Cebu, Mandaue Foam has rapidly grown over the past 40 years because of its commitment to provide its customers with quality and value for money products. Today, Mandaue Foam is one of the country's top 1000 corporations and has over 17 factories and showrooms nationwide. It's trademark products include its signature Flex Foam and Hotel Quality Gala Bed Mattress. Soon after it started, Mandaue Foam sensed a need in the market for a more complete home store and it began to expand and diversify its product lines to include pillows, sofas, dining tables, bed frames, and other small home items. Today, Mandaue Foam continues to augment its product lines and innovate by offering customized furniture among others.

Inside Mandaue Foam, Las Piñas branch

Following the success of its first retail showroom in Cebu, Mandaue Foam quickly expanded to neighboring provinces of Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Davao and General Santos. In 2007, it set sights in Manila and the Luzon area. It now has a factory and showroom along Ortigas Avenue Ext. that is fully equipped with a state-of-the-art foaming machine line. A year later, it opened its second showroom in the Luzon area in Quezon Avenue followed by a third one located at Las Pinas City by 2010 which also carries a wide range of furniture products. Mandaue Foam aims to provide very affordable and high quality foam and furniture products to the Filipino people.

Mandaue Foam has a lot of different styles of furniture, beddings, mattresses, and home décor in every price points. The selection is overwhelming but with a bit of patience and time, you’re sure to get good finds.

My picks:

Sectional sofa with mattress-like modules that is great for low-ceiling apartments. This style reminds me of Jean-Paul Gaultier’s collaboration with Roche Bobois but for a fraction of the cost.

Natural High Style. Monochromatic neutrals are chic and add warmth to your space.

Happy home. Colorful bean bags that can double as punching bags too! Fun for a kid’s room!

Sexy 60′s. An accent chair and stool/side table for the groovy pad.

Pretty patio. Outdoor furniture perfect for tea time.

Glam gold + Fun neon = Glam Fun style

Frech Flair. Chairs and side table reproduced in elegant French style and inspired by Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI influences.

My favorite: Tufted round coffee table

Add a taste of old Hollywood glamour to your home with this piece:

Mandaue Foam can customize this tufted ottoman to your desired size, color combination, and fabric.

You can choose from a wide range of swatches for any furniture you desire.

Dining tables

Traditional

Modern

Tulugan showcase

My obsession: Animal décor

Mandaue Foam’s got balls! Haha!

I love these Africana home accessories!

My favorite section

Umuulan ng chandeliers sa Mandaue Foam! So many choices and very affordable too!

Tom’s section

Coffee tables

I love space saving coffee tables. The ones with shelves can accommodate coffee table books and other trinkets.

For a bigger living room, you can use two to three small sized coffee tables.

This streamline coffee table can also double as a side table.

Nightstands with cabinets are the best! The extra storage can house some bedtime reads, night creams and other paraphernalia.

Plato-platuhan

Start building a tableware collection. A set of black and white plato-platuhan is practical and stylish. You can also mix and match them. These stoneware sets are now on sale at Mandaue Foam! Buy them now!

Aryanna wants a modern French style, shabby chic bedroom. Pasok sa banga etong dalawang ‘to!

New arrival: Wardrobe cabinets

My girl Trixie and me having “tea”. Thanks girl for driving me all the way to Las Piñas! I’m so glad hindi tayo binaha! Haha!

Meet Ryan Uy of Mandaue Foam. He’s only 23 years old, para lang kaming mag kuya! CHOZ!

Thanks Ryan for giving me the tour! Dami kong order!!!

Again, all the furniture can be customized to your own needs. Mandaue Foam has gazillions of fabrics and materials to choose from. As in loka-lokahan levelz! Haha!

Happy shopping!

Stress-Free Floral Arrangements

Buying flowers can be a daunting task, especially when faced with a garden filled with fresh blooms. What kind of flowers to buy? How much blooms are needed? How the hell does one arrange them in a flower vase? What kind of flower vase???

When it comes to arranging flowers and home decorating, I believed that you don’t have to be an expert to create a beautiful and happy home. Buy what you like… In the end it will all work beautifully.

I love decorating “Maison Epperson” with fresh flowers. Here are some of my favorite floral arrangements I do at home:

I find anthuriums or “Flamingo Flowers” sexy and elegant.

Using a large column vase, I basically just wacked the flowers and the leaves that the flower vendor arranged ... Et viola!

Anthuriums come in different colors. I prefer the deep red variety — they look more elegant than the pink ones.

There is something phallic about the shape, noh? Or is it just me? Haha!

These orange blooms (God! Help me! What kind of flower is this???) are beautiful! The stems remind me of long-legged models! Haha!

A tall vase is necessary for long-stemmed fresh flowers. This kind of floral arrangement gives scale to the room/coffee table.

”Orange is the most controversial of colours. Many consider it to be the gauche legacy of the freewheeling ’70s. But what an unfair reputation that decade has! To me, the ’70s were when the counterculture became the popular culture — and when adults finally felt liberated to embrace immaturity. You could be young again without having to be innocent! Orange shouted out to the world that you didn’t take things too seriously: that you weren’t old and crusty, that you were not your parents, and that you didn’t have a living room full of plastic-covered furniture. Rather, your furniture was made of plastic — and it was probably designed by Verner Panton.

Diss orange at your own expense. Orange says, “I’m fun!” Use it to draw out your inner child: grab a Fanta and an orange Tootsie Pop and feel your Happy Chic life expand.” ~Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Colors

What kind of flower are you? Iris?

Monochromatic hues are chic.

Malaysian Mumps are affordable and beautiful flowers.

I should have cut the stems two more inches... Keribels!

All green is in!

Single variety flowers are easy to arrange.

More Malaysian Mumps for Aryanna’s room

Minimum effort, maximum impact!

A few months ago, the folks at Samsung gifted me a fruit arrangement that came in a pink ceramic pitcher. I kept it and reused it as a vase for my daughter’s room.

Pink much?

Small but terrific!

I prefer miniature floral arrangements for the dining table. They allow the guests to view and converse with each other across the table.

These multicolored Malaysian Mumps are almost two weeks old so some of them are ready to retire. LOL

Tip: Miniature flower arrangements are appropriate for the office. Brighten your desk/cubicle with a bunch of fresh cut flowers and arrange them in a teacup, coffee mug or an empty jar.

Lanta na. Oh well, you get the picture.

I wish I had a backyard so I could plant flowers, vegetables, and grow an herb garden… Maybe someday. For now, I buy my favorite flowers at the grocery and at Saturday Salcedo Market because of convenience plus, the florists/sales clerks give me tips on how to make them last. I don’t know much about what kind of flower arrangement goes with what vase but I do know that fresh flowers add beauty to the home.

Tip: According to one of the florists in the grocery, for fresh cut flowers to stay fresh longer, add a 1/4 tsp. of bleach per 1 liter of water to keep the water from getting cloudy and inhibit the growth of bacteria.

Shoppingera, what are your favorite fresh flowers?

Tablescapes | Luxe, Asiana & More!

Welcome to a new category on my blog: Tablescapes

When I’m not styling celebrities and models, I’m styling tables at home.

I decorate/redecorate our home often. I’m not attached to one particular look. In fact, I love rearranging furniture, changing home accessories, switching artworks, and surprising my loved ones with different tablescapes. By doing so, it flexes my creative muscle and I have fun doing it!

Inspiration: The luxe life

I believe that you don’t need shagreen boxes, agate plates, antiques or other expensive artifacts to create a luxurious tableaux.

Peg:Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.”~Coco Chanel

Affordable luxury

Lifestyle books are not only inspiring reads but use as decorative pieces for your coffee table. Fresh flowers are welcoming and it's a simple way to add elegance to your home.

Touches of silver or/and gold add a touch of glamour to your tablescape

I'm a "coaster" kind of girl. What can I say, I'm a Virgo so watermarks annoy me. Haha! I have coaters stacked up on my tables/side tables at home. I like using stainless coasters as they are practical and some designs are very pretty.

Inspiration: Asiana

Accessories are the fun part of decorating, allowing you to display a favorite collection or a few treasured pieces.

Below are some of my favorite Filipiñana pieces at home:

My treasures are books and my animal ceramics/porcelain collection. Most of them are affordable but special — I’ve collected them over the years.

Orientalia. A touch of bamboo, Filipino fashion and history books, Chinese brush

Animalia

Below are some of my favorite animal home accessories. My family and I name all of them because we don’t allow strangers at home. Haha!

From left: Ursula the octopus and our roosters, Victor & Rolf. Tukaan na! Haha!

I try to maintain a stylish and organized coffee table, but having a toddler at home keeps me grounded—it reminds me that the real fun in decorating is enjoying the space with your loved ones.

Thank you McDonald's for always sending my son Happy Meal toys!

In La “Maison Epperson”, I am the principal decorator and my two-year old son Dylan is the “redecorator”! Haaay!

Dylan's style: Food + Toys

Toys are always fun!

Dylan's collection of animalia

Interesting conversation pieces are wonderful for coffee tables, they shows your personality and add character to your home.

Create a happy home!

Shoppingero/shoppingera, what’s on your coffee table?

Bahay-Bahayan | French Style Décor

If you’re following me on Twitter, you would know that I have been decluttering for the last few weekends now and our home is more organized and spacious. I thought I’d spruce up the place a bit and give it a minor makeover.

Since I’m not an interior designer, my home design process is very much like a fashion stylist — I accessorize and layer textures to bring a space together the way I would style a look.

Bagsful of goodies I got from Our Home.

La “Maison Epperson’s” decorating style is all about “glamfun” — eclectic mix of furniture, a touch of luxury, lots of art, and interesting home accessories.

Moodboard: It’s a mad, mad, mademoiselle world!

Paris when it sizzles

Score: Chic throw pillows that channel the French grain/flour sacks

I absolutely adore old French grain sacks but my gosh, they’re expensive! Look what I found at Our Home:

The pillow cases are made from soft woven fabric.

Decorative throw pillows are like jewelry when placed on couches as they enhance the look of the furniture.

Puma-Parisian, noh?

Tip: One of the easiest way to change the look of your couch or the look of your living room for that matter is change your throw pillows. They are a terrific way to tie a room together, plus affordable too.

"Sophistication and spectacle" - Coco Chanel

I went for a monochromatic look but added some textures to my couch — I mixed a studded bolster pillow I got in Thailand with the Our Home throw pillows.

Coco Chanel would be proud. Haha!

Aryanna approved

My sleeping beauty

Even my dahlin’ Dylan looks good next to the Our Home throw pillows! Haha!

Dylan watching one of his favorite DVD shows "Veggie Tales" on our newly spruced up couch.

Score: French style damask and gingham placemats

Tablescaping is probably one of my favorite things to do at home. If I’m not styling celebrities or working on fashion editorials, I’m creating different looks with our tableware or on our coffee table.

To keep within my French style décor, I also got some lovely placemats and table napkins from Our Home.

Our everyday white fine bone China plates get a cheery vibe with mismatched placemat and table napkin.

Tip: Mix and match prints

When mixing prints, stick to one color.

2 in 1. The floral print placemat is reversible.

Bonjour! Brunch set-up

As you can see, I also used the vintage-inspired French grain/flour sack throw pillows for our dining set.

Score: Chic black and white curtains

You may come to realize over time that I do fancy black and white when it comes to interiors.

Tip: Curtains are like clothing for your windows — whether it’s a little black dress, a cocktail dress for your living room, or a simple curtain for your dining room — you need to try it on. Buy two panels or a few yards of fabric first (make sure to ask about the return/exchange policies of the store) and hang them up to see if they work with the look of your place.

I love this black and white curtains — striking and bold, and yet somehow they don’t dominate the room. By the way, we're hanging more art on the wall this week for some pop of colors.

Score: Decorative ceramic figurine

Home accents such as decorative figurines add personality to one’s home.

Unlike the other stuff I bought from Our Home, this particular Lady Jade figurine was a bit of a splurge. As most large-sized ceramic or porcelain figurines, they cost a fair bit.

Just like some people name their yachts and guitars, I name my ceramic figurines because not one decorative animal or figurine should live with me at home without a name. LOL

Meet Coco, my Lady Jade in waiting. Haha!

Giving your home some minor makeover can really make all the difference. You don’t need to spend much to create a stylish interior all you need is some creativity and a whole lot of fun!

Happy home, happy life!

Found! Bar Carts

Tom and I have been entertaining guests at home for the past two weeks. All of them were his clients and art collectors interested in commissioning Tom to do artwork. Cool.

Entertaining at home has been fun and stress-free especially now that I’ve decluttered our place. Everything is organized and presentable. The only problem is I need a bar cart.

While waiting for my bar cart, I set-up a temporary wet bar in the kitchen when entertaining at home.

As some of you may know, I’ve been looking for the right bar cart for years. Remember this post on my previous blog:  http://mabuhaygirl.multiply.com/journal/item/407/Obsession_du_jour_Bar_Carts

I found something I like at Dexterton but I had a bad experience (again) with their staff so screw it.

This is the Kartell Flip foldable bar cart that I was suppose to buy from Dexterton.

I was very disappointed about the whole incident so I posted this on Twitter/Instagram:

(Photo taken using Instagram)

I downloaded the photo above from Google image. As faith would have it (and thanks to a kind reader), the designer of this bar cart found me online!

Meet Roxy Te-Owens of ShopSocietySocial.com!

Roxy's profile on her website reads: "Roxy is an ex-corporate rat racer turned self-proclaimed dream chaser. Society Social is her testament to her belief that life is entirely too short, no matter the risk, to not be doing what you love."

Roxy told me to visit her website and lo and behold:

Cue music: “Hallelujia…”

Ladies gentlemen, and gays, presenting… My dreamy drink trolley:

Society Social's The Sedgewick faux bamboo bar cart is vintage inspired, yet modern and glam. Whether you're a French 75 kinda gal or a most modern mixologist maven, serve your cocktails on The Sedgewick with guaranteed high proof panache!

Available in gold and silver

Roxy and I have communicated online regarding my bar cart. I can’t wait to finally get my hands on “The Sedgewick”!

Shoppingero/shoppingera, visit ShopSocietySocial.com and order your own fabulous bar cart now!
